## Context

> Position is the chord. *(accident)*
> A single strike is a whole life.
> Silences are composed, not absent:
> the gaps are where the previous life finishes.

### Before Making

EIGENPLATE grew out of EIGEN and OMBAK. The films perform the instrument; this is the instrument itself. A touch excites a combination of modes, and the same changing field moves the sand.

### After Making

LURUH is the first piece composed through the instrument’s own feedback: one raw chord strike, one bell, nine slowing damped hits, and one low root allowed to die. The picture is the same score’s sand.

### Media Description

No speech. In the live instrument, a strike, sustained bow or sweep produces inharmonic tones while sand gathers into changing nodal figures. In the 1:48 film, a dense chord decays into quiet, a bell draws a sixteen-cell lattice, nine damped hits grow farther apart, and a low root fades as the sand retreats to the rim. Composed silences separate the movements.

A square plate whose modes are its scale, timbre and picture. Kimi Code made the instrument and composed *LURUH* through it. Where you touch determines which modes ring: position is a musical choice.

Click or tap to strike; hold to bow; drag to sweep. Several fingers can play together. **Focus** narrows the chord toward one degree; **rift** detunes a second plate so that the beating becomes audible and visible. Press **1** to hear the EIGEN repertoire, **R** to re-dust the plate, or **E** to export your gestures as a score. Use the page’s expand control for more room.

The second tab holds *LURUH*: three struck lives and one death, composed with the instrument’s feedback about where its modes can be sounded. One entry keeps the instrument and its performance together.
